Dean's Message

Welcome to the Division of Biological Sciences, Graduate Affairs website! 
I hope our site provides you with a complete picture of the BSD student life, faculty, administration, and degree granting units or graduate programs. 

I am also delighted to highlight some of our achievements this year: 

• Starting Fall 2008, our stipend has been increased to $26,500. This makes our whole financial package, which includes an additional ~ $2,600 for coverage of health insurance costs, extremely competitive. 

• New this year, letters of recommendation can be sent electronically in our on-line graduate application. You may use the on-line graduate application as if it were a paper application but with more convenience and ease. See the admissions FAQ for further information.

• Over 80 students plan to matriculate in Fall 2007. In addition, this class is made up of 39% women and 9% minority students, which exemplifies our commitment to increasing diversity in the sciences. We are excited to welcome them to the University of Chicago and to the BSD community. 

• On March , 2008 we continued our overwhelmingly successful Science Career Forum.  Companies from a wide-range of industry, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, law, consulting, and governmental agencies, attended. It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce our graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to careers outside of academia. 

• As you may notice, we have improved and updated our website to provide you with easier access to information, designing it to be navigation-friendly for prospective applicants, current students, and alumni.
